2. Michael Laskowski (Portland State University, Dr. James Larson): Best Multimodal. A Maze Game for Speech Therapy Practice on Opera (One of the first sounds a child will practice during speech therapy is the letter ‘l’. Two words (carrot, cake) are also included for variety. Words with ‘k’ sounds are typically practiced after a child begins to show progress with ‘l’ sounds.)

Application for small aircraft pilot training – teaches radio communication to tower and air traffic control. Innovative, well-conceived start for a system that could be truly beneficial for training pilots when completed.

4. Hwa Young Lee (Portland State University, Dr. James Larson) – Runner-up, Voice-only. Application to help the people who are on a diet to keep track of their calories that they eat. This is also useful for people who want to know the calorie value for McDonald’s menu items.

5. Sidy Diop (Portland State University, Dr. James Larson) – Runner-up, Multimodal. Online unit converter for temperature, length and weight with Opera.

6. Jose A Gonzalez & Jose L. Carmona (University of Granada, Dr. Angel Gomez) – Best Proprietary / Special Purpose. ‘GeoYellowPages’ runs on a Windows Mobile device, GPS equipped. Uses DSR. Processes phrases such as “Show me the supermarkets in Los Angeles” or “where is the airport in Philadelphia”; uses Google for display.
   Use: move ‘GeoYellowPages.exe’ onto your Windows Mobile 5 device, ensure your device is connected to the internet, then execute GeoYellowPages. Press the ASK ME! button then say your query.
